Frequently Asked Questions
Are there restrooms on the train?
No. Some of our cars were built with restrooms but they are not currently working. The one exception is our Dinner Train, cars 24 and 25, each of which has a working restroom. Restrooms are available in the East Troy Depot. The Elegant Farmer (porta-potties only) and Indianhead Park also have restrooms.
Is eating allowed on the train?
No. The exception, of course, is the Dinner Train, cars 24 and 25, where meals are served.
Is smoking allowed on the train?
No.
Are the trains climate-controlled?
Our dining cars, cars 24 and 25, have air conditioning and heat. All of our other cars have heat with the exception of Car 26 and the open car.
Are your trains accessible for the disabled?
No. The cars used by the East Troy Railroad Museum are historic, original streetcars and interurban equipment, designed long before the ADA was enacted. However, many people with physical limitations are able to board and enjoy their trip if they can navigate a few steps with some help and taking the time they need.
Where can we park?
Free parking is available at the East Troy Depot, East Troy Depot: 2002 Church Street, East Troy, WI 53120.
Can I board at The Elegant Farmer?
For regular and Harvest Fest trains, guests can board at The Elegant Farmer. After riding to the East Troy Depot, guests must pick-up (tickets purchased on-line) or purchase their tickets before returning to The Elegant Farmer. (Note: Dinner, Bunny, and Christmas Trains ONLY board at the East Troy Depot.)
Does the train run when it is raining?
The trains run rain or shine. The railroad may substitute equipment based on the weather conditions. Trains do not run in electrical storms, that is, storms with lightning.
Can I reserve tickets in advance?
Yes, tickets may be purchased on-line. To purchase tickets, click here.
If I arrive to the Depot early, is there something to do in the area?
Yes, the Depot is a museum with an adjacent gift shop of train-related items for all ages. East Troy village center is a 3-block walk with shops and restaurants around an old-time square. An ice cream parlor is across the tracks from the Depot.
Can we ride the train more than once?
Tickets for regular and Harvest Fest trains are good all day, enabling guests to ride multiple trains on that day. (Note: Dinner, Bunny, and Christmas Trains have reserved seats; tickets for those trains are good only for the train specified.)
What are the trains like?
The East Troy Railroad is an electric railroad. Each car draws power from the overhead wire which drives electric motors under the car. The East Troy Railroad Museum has a collection of trolleys and interurban cars from around the Midwest. The cars running on any particular day depend on availability and the weather.
