Frequently-Asked-Questions

Our volunteers are always happy to answer any questions you have! If there is something we can help you with, please contact us!  Give us a call at 262-642-3263 on (when is it staffed), send a message on our Facebook or Instagram contact page, or to send an email click here.
What are the trains like?
The East Troy Railroad is an electric railroad.  Each car draws power from the overhead wire which drives electric motors under the car.  The East Troy Railroad Museum has a collection of trolleys and interurban cars from around the Midwest.  The cars running on any particular day depend on availability and the weather.  For a roster of the East Troy Railroad cars click here.

Does the train run when it is raining?
The trains run rain or shine.  The railroad may substitute equipment based on the weather conditions.  Trains do not run in electrical storms, that is, storms with lightning.

Are the trains climate-controlled?
Our dining cars, cars 24 and 25, have air conditioning and heat. All of our other cars have heat with the exception of Car 26 and the open car.

Are there restrooms on the train?
No. Some of our cars were built with restrooms but they are not currently working. The one exception is our Dinner Train, cars 24 and 25, each of which has a working restroom. Restrooms are available in the East Troy Depot. The Elegant Farmer (porta-potties only) and Indianhead Park also have restrooms.

Is eating allowed on the train?
No. The exception, of course, is the Dinner Train, cars 24 and 25, where meals are served.

Is smoking allowed on the train?
No. While some of our interurban cars have historic smoking rooms, the East Troy Railroad Museum trains and facilities are 100% smoke-free.

Are your trains accessible for the disabled?
No. The cars used by the East Troy Railroad Museum are historic, original streetcars and interurban equipment, designed long before the ADA was enacted.  However, many people with physical limitations are able to board and enjoy their trip if they can navigate a few steps with some help and taking the time they need.

Can we ride the train more than once?
Tickets for regular and Harvest Fest trains are good all day, enabling guests to ride multiple trains on that day. (Note: Dinner, Bunny, Trick-or-Treat, and Christmas Trains have reserved seats; tickets for those trains are good only for the train specified.)

Can I board at The Elegant Farmer or at Indianhead Park in Mukwonago?
For regular Summer and Harvest Fest trains, guests can board at The Elegant Farmer.  See the Summer Schedule and the Harvest Fest Schedule. After riding to the East Troy Depot, guests must pick-up (tickets purchased online) or purchase their tickets in-person before returning to The Elegant Farmer.  (Note: Dinner, Bunny, and Christmas Trains ONLY board at the East Troy Depot.). Harvest Fest trains do not go east of The Elegant Farmer, but summer trains continue east to Lower Phantom Lake but may not cross Highway ES into Indianhead Park.

Can I reserve tickets in advance?
Yes, tickets may be purchased on-line.  To purchase tickets, click here. Reserved tickets are required for Dinner, Bunny, Trick-or-Treat, and Christmas trains.

Where can we park?
Free parking is available at the East Troy Depot, East Troy Depot: 2002 Church Street, East Troy, WI 53120.

If I arrive to the Depot early, is there something to do in the area?
Yes, the Depot is a museum with an adjacent gift shop of train-related items for all ages.  East Troy village center is a 3-block walk with shops and restaurants around an old-time square.
