TMER&L Line Car D-23
Built: As D-21, 1907, TMER&L Cold Springs Shops Acquired: Purchased 1989 Motors: Four 125hp Length: 54' Weight: 30 tons Installing the trolley wire into Trent Tube Plant 2 during the East Troy Industrial Park electrification, 1995 The oldest operating unit on the railroad, this wood-bodied car has been through many changes in its long career. Built on passenger-type trucks for speed in responding to trolley emergencies by parent Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company, it has a wide variety of functional features. The roof has three insulated platforms to allow access to the overhead for maintenance and construction. The center platform raises some five feet via a 600 volt motor inside, and then has a swing-out extension that enables the worker to reach the line poles. The interior has workbenches, numerous bins filled with trolley parts, cabinets, and a trolley wire dispensing reel. Also equipped with train air controls, in a pinch it can haul maintenance-of-way freight cars as well. |
